The Need for the Experienced Veterinary Surgeon and Practitioner
Unlike, any internal diseases and medicaments, surgical interventions have been in demand in this sector in Albania. Thus, Our Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon, particularly in hard tissue (bone) surgery, specifically in extremitiy, hips (hip dysplasia surgeries) and mandibula fracture surgeries are musts! cross ligament and ligament surgeries are plus.
Besides the above-mentioned surgeries, soft tissue, particularly gastro-intestinal surgeries are plus!.
The Applicant, the Veterinary Surgeon, shall also conduct mainstream medical pet practise. Therefore, the Succssful candidate whould have the following professional expertise and skills;
1) Able to conduct companion animal veterinary practice that is gathered under the umbrella of “Companion Animal Veterinary Practice”
2) Not limited to, but able to conduct at least bone fracture, tendon repair and patellar dislocation surgeries in dogs and cats.
Working Conditions
Working conditions can vary considerably between different types of practice. Vet needs to be aware of the physical risks such as being scratched or bitten as well as those posed by working with animals with trans-species diseases. There are also risks from laboratory testing, particularly when testing specimens. However, most of haematological and biochemical analyses are full automatic and requires not much human involvement. Histology Laboratory mainly consists of a stereo-microscope and conventional dying techniques.
Technical Skills
A detailed scientific background and knowledge of veterinary medicine/ science is a pre-requisite
Communication Skills
1) Strong inter-personal and communication skills are a must. There will be many difficult situations involved within the job and it will be necessary to liaise with a range of different people from high-brow pharmacologists and pathologists to those with learning difficulties. Tact is a must.
Professional Qualifications and Work Experience
1) Holding BSc and or equivalent (at least four-year) degree in Veterinary Medicine;
2) Fluent in English language at professional level;
3) At least five years “after graduation” field experience in small / companion animals (dogs and cats) veterinary practice in private veterinary practice centres and/or pet hospitals;
4) Verified experience in being capable of conducting orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery of gastro intestinal track at Prime Surgeon Level in dogs and cats as well as simple and complicated extremity fractures.
5) Knowledge on inhalation anesthesia.
6) At least two references related to article #3 and #4 above.
The duties and responsibilities of the Veterinary Practitioner are:
Policlinic Services
1) Veterinary Surgeon have responsibilities in the prevention of disease (pre-emptive), diagnosis and treatment of sick, maimed and injured animals, including but not limited;
a) Examine animals to diagnose their health problems;
b) Diagnose and treat animals for medical conditions;
c) Use of laboratory diagnostic techniques;
d) Treat and dress wounds;
e) Dermatological examination;
f) Perform surgery on animals;
g) Post – operative tretment;
h) Test for and vaccinate against diseases;
i) Alongside veterinary nurses, vet will supervise and carry out a variety of scans and tests. These may include x-rays, haematology, faecal analysis, ultrasounds and biopsies.;
j) Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments;
k) Prescribe medication;
l) Provide quality pet care and client education;
m) Consultation Services; answer questions from the clients pertaining to veterinary health issues of their pets;
n) Explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems; generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client; educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products for their pets;
o) Educate clients on, advocates for and strives to deliver the highest quality medical, surgical, dental and nutritional diagnostics, treatment, and preventative care to companion animals;
p) Take care of the diagnostic section of the Pet Hospital and follow up the cases according to the diagnosis;
q) Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient;
r) Provide client communication;
s) Care taking for the cleanliness and tidiness of the Exam Rooms; supervise other team members;
Clinics Services
2) Manage, treat and monitor critically ill, emergencies and intensive care patients;
3) Take part or take the lead role in the surgery section and perform surgery with competency and diligence;
4) Be responsible for performing professional level work involving the administration and supervision of a clinical program for the proper examination, treatment of animals at our hospital and hotel facility;
5) Perform daily /hourly check-up for the patients that come by to the clinic and deal with the daily vaccine programs;
6) Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines;
7) Euthanize animals, when needed;
8) Provide ancillary support including supporting the Animal Care Attendants and Hygiene Staff by providing work direction, answering questions and helping with the maintenance of the section by cleaning and stocking supplies as needed;
9) Carry out the inspection of the support staff, in performing their duties and responsibilities on the patients and the guests for their examinations at the intensive care and animal guests at the hotel.
10) Coordinate and supervise other veterinary duties as it required by the chief of the hospital or the management;
11) Easy communication skills with everyone;
12) Must have Team Spirit; knows how to carry out work in a group and work in harmony with other colleagues;

Social Responsibility

Staff Development
15) Develop and implement policies and procedures in accordance with best practices in veterinary medicine and conduct in-service training for staff members in the hospital;
Working Time
16) The Veterinary Practitioner is on duty for 24 hours, 7 Days. Policlinic hours are from 08:00 until late evening, not earlier than 20:00 hrs. On Sundays, the Policlinic hours may begin from 09:00 until the need of our Clients for care, and Not before 18:00 hrs;
17) Work long hours if necessary and be on call 24 hrs a day even on leave days;
18) The Veterinary Practitioner is “On-Call” during the night hours, out of the Policlinic Hours. They are obliged to attend for the service of our Clients Anytime of the Day;
19) Upon the need, The Veterinary Practitioner accompanies the patient at the Hospital during Non-Policlinic Hours, at night.
